New Venture Christian Church Newsletter Thursday, January 26th, 2012 "Mind Your Own Business." Our "Mind Your Own Business" series comes to an end this week. It has been one of the most life changing series I have witnessed in the history of New Venture. We are seeing weekly growth as people take God at his word and trust as well as test him. We are witnessing commitments in areas that have been off limits in the past. Only time will tell the long term affects of this four week study. It is truly amazing what God is doing in many hearts and lives. Though some people struggle with the content of this teaching series, there are so many people in our church who have found the freedom and the power of the blessed life. Each week we are hearing first hand story of both the struggles and victories many have experienced. God is at work in big ways. Here’s the link, http://stevethornton.wordpress.com/ Connect Group Sign-ups for the winter semester are under way. You can register at the welcome table on Sunday or by emailing steve. Groups are offered on Tuesday and Wednesday nights this winter. Connect groups are a great example of Biblical community. They can become family to you. You talk about things that you never dreamed of talking about with people who are not in your bloodline. I mean, you talk about the very real, street level stuff. When one hurts, you all hurt. You cry together. There might be more tears shed in that group than you shed any other place. You laugh together. You celebrate. When something good happens you party, bring a cake for this, bring a cake for that, there’s always something to celebrate. When someone is down and out, there’s a sick kid or something, people bring meals, which is a really awesome thing. There is always someone in each group that cooks like nobody’s business. It’s just the most awesome feeling to know that the family of Christ genuinely cares for you. You pray daily for some of the needs in our group. You break bread. This isn’t accidental. It is intentional, and it is Biblical community. Our groups for the winter are as follows. Group max # is 18. Don’t delay. First come, first serve. Get connected today with a Connect Group. This is the last week to collect peanut butter for the Richmond Food Bank. Pull out all the stops. Send the word out on facebook, to all your co-workers, friend and neighbors. We are hoping for another 3-400 jars. Will you help us push to the finish line with a huge shipment of peanut butter? National peanut Butter day isn’t until March 1, but let’s make February 1, National Peanut Butter Day for Richmond as we deliver our truck load to the food bank on that day. Thanks for all your help. The Women’s Ministry Team is writing you to let you know of some events that are coming your way(below)! But first, we need your help!! We are in the midst of planning a Women’s GETAWAY Retreat in May and we would like to get a rough figure of how many women would be interested in attending. This number will help us decide what type of facility we need to acquire. Here are the details: – When? May 4-5 – How much? $30-50, which includes materials, lodging, and food – Where? To be determined, but will be an hour to two hours away – What? It has been fun and we have learned alot about the Bible and ourselves and leading a life that is Christ-like! We are asking your children the questions…Is God the boss of your life!? Have you accepted HIM as your personal Savior? Have you asked him to live in your heart? For information on how to talk to your child about these subjects please see Misti or get the information on the check in table this Sunday. Please take a moment on Sundays to ask your children about the lesson and what they learned. We are working on learning more about the Bible and leading a life that is honoring God.
